Joseph Loveland was just waiting for his ride home from work when the high school senior made the most lucrative find of his life: $70,000 in a canvas bag.
He says he never considered keeping it and credits his mother with raising him with the honesty that earned him a $1,000 reward.
Loveland, 18, had just left his job at a clothing store at 5:30 p.m. Monday and was waiting for his mother near TrustCo Bank when he spotted the bag.
"I look at the tag, and it says $70,000," Loveland said. An employee walked out of the bank, and Loveland gave him the bag, just minutes before a man in a van drove up looking for the money.
The driver gave Loveland $20, but Tuesday William F. Terry, the bank's senior vice president, stopped at the clothing store and gave Loveland a thank-you note and $1,000.
