Niles C. Ingersoll, 73, of Attica, a retired prison guard, died Monday (March 23, 1998) in the emergency room of Wyoming County Community Hospital, Warsaw.
Born in Cowlesville, he worked for 17 years as a guard at Attica Correctional Facility before his retirement some 10 years ago.
He was a U.S. Army combat veteran, serving with the 13th Airborne during World War II in the European Theater, and was a charter member of Post 6239, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Alexander and Harder O'Donnell Post 734, American Legion, in Attica.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Margaret Heintz Ingersoll of Attica; three sons, Niles of Jefferson City, Tenn., Mark F. of North Java and Scott D. of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Patricia L. Zak of Attica and Jo Ann Lynch of Smyrna, Tenn.; a stepson, Robert Alexander of Pembroke; a brother, Alton of Cowlesville; two sisters Alene Reiner of Alden and Ada Lee Rudnik of Depew; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John's United Church of Christ, Dutch Hollow Road, Sheldon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
