The town has been given another two months to replace three provisionally appointed police officers with the top candidates on the Civil Service list.
When the list was established Feb. 19, Officers Matthew Arnold, Anthony Nicoletti and DeEtte Iacovitti were not among the top 10 candidates and had to be replaced by three of the top six candidates by April 19 under state Civil
The county Civil Service Commission, however, has given Police Chief Ronald Winkley until June 19 to act after he pleaded hardship, Commission Secretary Al Joseph said Wednesday.
That means Arnold, Nicoletti and Iacovitti, who were provisionally appointed to the newly created full-time jobs Dec. 6, can continue to work for the town department until June 19, Joseph said. "Then he'll (Winkley) have to let them go," Joseph said.
