KATS WIN SLUGFEST FOR SOFTBALL SPLIT

The Erie Community College softball team gave up 25 runs, but still managed a split with Elgin Community College Wednesday in Orlando, Fla. The Kats fell, 11-3, in the first game, but came back to outslug the Illinois school, 15-14, in the finale to push their record to 3-3.

In the second game, Mary Dennison was 4 of 5 with three runs and three RBIs and Kristin Jezewski had four hits, four runs and two RBIs. Trina Markus finished with four RBIs for the day and Krista Haynes had three.

BASEBALL: ECC won and tied in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. Nathan Grant belted a two-run homer as the Kats beat the Baldwin Wallace junior varsity, 3-2, in the opener. ECC battled back from an 8-0 hole to tie the Bethel JV, 8-8, in their second game, which was ended with a 2-hour, 45-minute time limit ran out. Joe Trambulo and Jeff Robertson each knocked in two runs for the Kats, while Marshall Cook (McKinley) came on to allow one run in 7 1/3 innings of relief.
