Douglas E. Riggs, 42, an employee of the state Office of General Services for almost 14 years, died Tuesday (March 24, 1998) in Millard Fillmore Hospital after a long illness.
Riggs was popular among his co-workers in the Donovan State Office Building. Riggs was a longtime Buffalo Bills fan. His co-workers recently organized a benefit in his behalf that was attended by members of the Buffalo Jills.
Born in Olean, Riggs and his brothers sang in the St. Paul's Cathedral Boys Choir.
A resident of Hamburg, Riggs was a carpenter for the state Office of General Services for 13 1/2 years. He also was active in youth sports, coaching teams in the Hamburg Junior Baseball League for many years.
Survivors include his wife, the former Constance Grudzien; two sons, Douglas Jr. and Johnathan, and a daughter Jillian, all of Hamburg; a stepson, Alexander of Angola; his mother, Dorothy Samter of Mayville; and four brothers, Philip Jr. of Hamburg, Mark of Orchard Park, David of Oxford, Ohio, and Kevin of Rochester.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Cathedral, 128 Pearl St.
