The Cattaraugus County Legislature will be host to a panel discussion Thursday of the cleanup of underground trichloroethene contamination and the Columbia Gas Millennium Pipeline project, which would cross portions of the cleanup areas.
Trichloroethene is a volatile organic compound.
The public is invited to attend the session at 7 p.m. in the third floor Legislative Chambers in the County Center, 303 Court St.
Panel participants include representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the state Department of Environmental Conservation, Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. and Millennium Pipeline Co.
Millennium and Columbia Gas have applied to build or upgrade existing pipeline extending from Canada under Lake Erie and traveling eastward across New York State.
The 442-mile pipeline would travel through Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Steuben, Chemung, Tioga, Broome, Delaware, Sullivan, Orange, Rockland, Westchester counties and the Bronx to its final service destination in Milford, Pa.
