Esther C. Bedell, 89, of Gowanda, a homemaker and volunteer in children's programs, died Sunday (March 22, 1998) in the Gowanda Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Garden City, Kan., she was a former resident of Wallkill and moved to Gowanda in 1970. She performed foster grandparenting at J.N. Adams Developmental Center for 10 years and worked as an aide for the special education class in the Gowanda Elementary School before moving into the nursing home in 1970.
She was a member of the Gowanda United Methodist Church, and a past member of the Order of Eastern Star in Wallkill.
Survivors include two sons, John H. of South Dayton and William A. of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Nina B. Quigley of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Lettie Torrey of Bradford, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the United Methodist Church in Gowanda. Burial will be in the Bruynswyck Rural Cemetery in Shawangunk.
