JOHN P. BERTHA, TEACHER, COACH AT BARKER CENTRAL

John P. Bertha, 69, of West Somerset Road, a retired veteran teacher and coach at Barker Central School, died Monday (March 23, 1998) in Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital.

A native of Weirton, W.Va., he taught sixth grade and special classes at the school for 28 years before his retirement in 1985.

Also at the school, he was the director of adult education and audio-visual services in addition to coaching varsity football and golf.

During the Korean War, he was a demolitions expert with the Air Force.

He earned a teaching degree from West Liberty State College, West Virginia, and also attended college courses at Buffalo and Brockport State colleges.

Surviving are his wife, the former Claudette Grinier; two sons, Randy J. and Timothy J., both of Morgantown, W.Va.; a brother, Joseph of Weirton; a sister, Geraldine Donofe of Weirton; and two grandchildren.

Services are planned Saturday morning in Presley Funeral Home, Weirton. Burial will be in Paris Cemetery, Paris, Pa.
