John D. Hojnowski, volunteer firefighter for 25 years, died Sunday (March 22, 1998) of injuries suffered in a snowmobile crash in Java. He was 39.
The Wyoming County Sheriff's Department said the crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, when Hojnowski's snowmobile crashed into a telephone pole. He died in Wyoming County Community Hospital.
Hojnowski was born in Batavia. A 1977 graduate of Attica High School, he was employed as a truck driver for Pine Hill Concrete Co. in Depew, and was an active member of the Bennington Fire Company.
Survivors include his wife, the former Judith Berner; a son, Christopher; a brother, James; and a sister, Deborah Reynolds of Connecticut.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1230 Clinton St.
