Robert J. Sescil, a lifelong Newstead resident and volunteer in community organizations and activities for more than 50 years, has been chosen 1998 citizen of the year by the Akron Chamber of Commerce.
A Republican committeeman for more than 20 years, Sescil served on the town Planning Board and as a representative of several other organizations, including the board of directors of the County Farm Bureau. He also has served as a 4-H leader and on his church's Stewardship Committee.
The award will be presented at the Chamber's annual recognition dinner at 7 p.m. April 24 in the Akron House Restaurant. Tickets will be available next week in the Chamber office, 49 Main St.
