ROYALTON WOMAN 'SERIOUS' AFTER HEAD-ON COLLISION

A Royalton woman was listed in serious condition Sunday night in Erie County Medical Center, after being hurt in a head-on collision with an alleged drunk driver Saturday night on Chestnut Ridge Road, Deputy Brett D. Thompson said.

Kelly M. Ward, 22, of 7617 Chestnut Ridge Road was hurt when her car was struck by that of Brian R. Rice, 22, of 7474 Fairview Drive, Lockport, at 8:06 p.m. Saturday. Thompson charged Rice with driving while intoxicated, speed not reasonable, and not wearing a seat belt.

Thompson said Rice's eastbound car slid across the center line of Chestnut Ridge about 250 feet east of Day Road and struck Ms. Ward's car head-on. Ms. Ward's passenger, Daniel J. Whitmire, 23, was in stable condition in Lockport Memorial Hospital Sunday night. Rice was treated in Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital and released.
