POLICE FOLLOW FOOTPRINTS IN RESTAURANT BREAK-IN

Police followed footprints in freshly fallen snow to track down two men accused of burglarizing the Golf Green Restaurant at the Hyde Park Golf Course early Sunday, Officer Jack Miljour said.

Eugene Stewart, 39, of 1314 Ashland Ave. was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief. Aaron R. Stewart, 35, no permanent address, was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.

Police received an alarm from the restaurant, 4343 Porter Road, about 3:30 a.m. Miljour said there were footprints around the building, and he saw an alarm system torn off the wall and lying on the floor of the restaurant.

Miljour said he then saw two men running south across the golf course toward the Packard Court apartments. He and several other officers gave chase.

Officer Ronald Lepine said he saw the two men running across a ball diamond near the apartment complex, and captured Aaron Stewart in front of the building.

Meanwhile, Lt. Joseph Morrison said he followed footprints to a car behind the building, where he found Eugene Stewart hiding under a blanket in the back seat.
