NEWSTEAD PANEL GETS STATE GRANT FOR STUDY

The Rural New York Grant Fund has awarded a $3,000 grant to the Newstead Conservation Advisory Council to study the economic impact of the sale and transfer of farmland development rights.

Since its inception in 1993, the program has donated more than $1 million to local groups involved in planning, conservation, land use and open space projects and historic preservation in rural communities in the state.

The funds come from several foundations, including the J.M. Kaplan, Andy Warhol, Margaret L. Wendt, Philip Morris, Corning Inc. and Northern New York Communities foundations.
