Joseph B. Federico, 89, an independent industrial designer, died Friday (March 20, 1998) in Leesburg Nursing Center, Leesburg, Fla., after a brief illness. He had lived in Leesburg for the past six years.
Federico was born in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School.
For 50 years, he operated his own industrial design business, working for more than 75 corporate clients in the United States and Canada, including Carrier Corp., the Syracuse air conditioning concern, and Stromberg-Carlson Corp., a Rochester television and radio company.
He married the former Helen M. Carlson in Erie, Pa., on Oct. 29, 1952. They lived in Buffalo for the next six years, and then moved to Rochester for 25 years before moving to Florida.
Federico retired in 1987, and the couple lived in various Florida towns before settling in Leesburg.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester for 25 years.
Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters, Paula Robinson of Rochester, Mich., and Sandi Starrette of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; a sister, Rose Snook of Circleville, Ohio; a brother, Thomas; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. George's Catholic Church, 1910 E. Falls St., preceded by prayers at 10 in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
