HALL SHUTS DOOR ON CITY, COUNTY DEMOCRAT POSTS

The chairman of the Jamestown Democratic Committee is resigning and will not be a candidate for the Chautauqua County Democratic Committee chairmanship as had been planned.

Ray Hall had been expected to succeed John Dillenburg as chairman of the county committee. But Hall now says he will be unable to hold either position.

"I have some health concerns that I want to address, and I have to do that now," Hall said. "In addition, we have had some family issues that we need to deal with, so I have my boat loaded right now."

The city committee's vice chairman, Anthony Raffa, will take over as chairman. There is no vice chairman of the county committee, so that panel will meet Tuesday night to elect a new chairman.

"That election Tuesday night will be to fill his (Dillenburg's) unexpired term until the regular election in September," Hall said.

Dillenburg resigned to become clerk of the County Legislature. He was appointed in January.

In addition, the county Democratic committee Tuesday will endorse a candidate for Family Court judge. Two Jamestown-area lawyers, Judith Claire and Kenneth Lasker, are both seeking the endorsement in a hotly contested race.

Hall said: "I don't know what the outcome will be, but we suddenly find ourselves blessed with abundance. Usually we have to search for candidates, but now we have two."

The Jamestown Democratic Committee made no endorsement for Family Court judge.
