GORE'S LETTER TO MOYNIHAN ON TWINS STIRS LAUGHTER

It was double the embarrassment for Vice President Gore after a computer in his office mistakenly sent U.S. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, D-N.Y., a letter congratulating him on the birth of twins.

Moynihan hasn't been a new father in nearly 40 years, but he did turn 71 on March 16 -- and someone in Gore's office apparently pushed the wrong button on a computer that is programmed to print birthday congratulations and other form letters.

When informed of the mistake, Gore's office called to apologize, spokesman Larry Haas said.

Tony Bullock, Moynihan's chief of staff, said the twins letter "was the subject of a good deal of laughter in the office."
