Adelphia Communications Corp. has begun connecting residents in Hamburg and Blasdell to its new fiber optic cable
The upgrade will result in the reduction of future cable interruptions and an expanded channel capacity to 71 channels from 36.
The company plans to have all subscribers in Blasdell converted by the end of April, while the Hamburg cable installation will be completed in the summer of 1998. New state of the art equipment will be used to upgrade more than 212 miles of aerial and underground cable for nearly 27,000 homes.
The project is part of a $50 million upgrade of systems throughout Western New York.
"This upgrade of our distribution system incorporates the most advanced fiber optic technology of the cable industry," said Thomas Haywood, general manager of operations.
