THE BOOKSELLER'S SHOP

The Bookseller's Shop in the Genesee Country Museum in Mumford once stood in the Monroe County hamlet of Hart's Corners. Its original section dates from the early 19th century, while the addition and the Greek Revival details stem from remodeling and expansion in the 1840s.

The establishment of a bookshop was one of the indications that civilization had begun to arrive in pioneer settlements. Booksellers commonly carried standard reference works of history, biography, religion, geography and practical manuals for farmers, along with a few novels.
