QUAKE HITS AREA IN ITALY THAT WAS STRUCK LAST YEAR

An earthquake rocked the Umbrian and Marche regions in central Italy on Saturday, the same area hit by a string of tremors last year, civil protection officials said.

There was no immediate word on damage or injuries. Eleven people were killed last Sept. 26 when the first of a series of quakes struck the two central regions.

The Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, which was seriously damaged in last September's quakes, did not appear to be affected by Saturday's tremor, according to first reports.
