MARGARET LARGE, PIONEER POLICE DETECTIVE

Margaret Uldene Large, 91, Pennsylvania's first woman police detective, died Friday (March 20, 1998) in the Orchard Manor Nursing Home, where she had resided for the past 10 years.

The former Margaret Brooks was born in Pittsburgh and had lived there most of her life.

She had worked as a social worker in Pennsylvania and then served as an officer for the Allegheny County (Pa.) Sheriff's Department for 15 years.

She took great pride in her police career and being appointed Pennsylvania's first woman detective.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pennsylvania.

Her husband, Fred E., died in 1986.

She is survived by two sons, Frederick of Lyndonville and Orlando, Fla., and Ronald of Valencia, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday in Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, 112 N. Main St., Lyndonville. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville.
