A Niagara Street man was arrested early Saturday after he allegedly beat his girlfriend and later kneed a police officer in the groin.

Duane A. Steele, 34, of 1922 Niagara was arrested on a charge of third-degree assault at 5:15 a.m. in his home, Officer Michael Scozzfava said. He later was charged at the City Jail with obstructing governmental administration.

Jacqueline Rogers, 28, of Pine Avenue told police she and Steele were arguing when he punched her several times in the head and ripped her shirt, Scozzfava said.

At the jail, Steele kneed Officer Alan Forsey in the groin as Forsey was checking to see if he had any weapons before locking him up in a cell.
