CLERKS UNIONIZE AT CHILDREN'S

Clerical staff at Children's Hospital voted 116-81 to affiliate with the AFL-CIO Hospital and Nursing Home Council, the union said Friday.

Mark Panepinto, a union organizer, said the main issues were fear of job loss in the coming merger of hospitals and the desire to have a voice in the workplace.

The union now represents about 1,200 Children's employees, including registered and licensed practical nurses and maintenance workers.
