William P. McNaughton, 77, of Farnham and Seminole, Fla., died unexpectedly Tuesday (Dec. 30, 1997) while visiting his ailing wife in a Seminole nursing facility.
McNaughton, a former resident of Buffalo and Crystal Beach, Ont., served in the U.S. Army in World War II and received a Purple Heart. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Letchworth State Park and joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1954. He also was retired from the Grain Handlers Local 109.
After his retirement in 1974, he shared his time between Florida and Farnham.
He and his first wife, Mary Cullinan, had been married 33 years when she died in 1979.
He was an avid golfer and played in leagues both here and in Florida.
Survivors include his wife, the former Marie Gavin Coughlin of Seminole; two sons, W. Daniel of Troy, Mich., and Thomas P. of Albany; three daughters, Margaret Goss of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Catherine Talty and Maureen Munzert; five stepchildren, all living in Minnesota; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 65 Ridgewood Road, after prayers in Canaan Funeral Home, 2397 Seneca St. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
