One very attainable project that could greatly improve our city would be the quarterly collection of litter by neighborhood volunteer groups.
This may seem trivial compared with major undertakings, but it would give our city a better image and instill pride in our community -- all at a very low cost to the city. The only thing the volunteers would need are trash bags.
How many times have those of us residing in the Buffalo area heard visitors comment on how "clean" Niagara Falls, Ontario, is compared to the falls on the American side?
Children should be taught and encouraged to take pride in their community. Schools should be asked to participate in a quarterly cleanup of the school grounds and neighboring area. We all must take pride in our city and take responsibility to be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
