It takes every neighborhood, every organization, every business and every person workingtogether to build a better Buffalo.
Communities are built around schools, businesses, homes, day-care centers, supermarkets, service stations, restaurants, fire houses, police stations and city and county governments, just to name the basic foundations.
A community-owned supermarket -- Our Market -- is needed at the corner of Fillmore Avenue and East Ferry Street. A police station is also needed in this neighborhood.
But Our Market is vital. This project would bring jobs, quality food, security and pride to the community. We have worked and waited too long for promises not kept from city agencies.
We have seen many projects in other neighborhoods started, completed and opened for business, yet we have only broken promises. South Buffalo, North Buffalo and the West Side all have new buildings, homes, police stations and thriving supermarkets that offer quality food, low prices and ethnic foods in their communities.
Why is it that East Side residents must go outside of their communities to purchase food? Opening Our Market on Fillmore and East Ferry should be a big part of building a better Buffalo.
