Our city has to give the taxpayers an incentive to save and preserve Buffalo's housing.
Since the permit department is a little more user-friendly these days, why not take the next step and lower the permit fee on homes to $25 and lower the assessment value by the amount of the improvements for the next two years?
This could be limited to 10 percent of theassessment, but it would give Buffalonians anincentive to stay in the city and improve their property. Who knows, if one person improves his home, his neighbors might be inspired do the same. These renovations could get contagious and spread down the street, to the next block and even throughout the entire city.
