An employee of an adult home in Williamsville suffered smoke inhalation Wednesday afternoon when a small fire broke out in a resident's room.

The fire caused minor smoke and water damage at Bassett Park Manor on St. Gregory Court, an administrator reported. The employee who suffered smoke inhalation was taken to an undisclosed hospital as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the fire was not identified.

After the smoke alarm went off in the room, some residents were evacuated to Bassett Manor across the street, the administrator said. They were expected to return to their rooms later Wednesday.

Monthly fire drill training for all staff and residents, and the construction of the building, enabled a quick and effective response to the situation, the administrator said.
