A Brooklyn grocer and his clerk were shot to death in what police called a possible robbery attempt at his store, which also was the scene of a $500 stickup a month ago.
No arrests have been made in Tuesday's slaying, police said Wednesday.
The grocer, Jesus Martinez, 56, and clerk Frank Rodriguez, 19, were stocking shelves at noon in the Stop 1 Grocery when the gunman entered and shot Martinez in the chest and Rodriquez in the back, said Detective Joseph Pentangelo.
His family said Martinez came to the United States from the Dominican Republic 30 years ago and worked as a laborer until he was able to buy a grocery in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. He left that store for another in the Bronx and finally bought the store at 2187 Strauss St. two years ago.
