REV. JAMES GOODEN, LONGTIME PASTOR IN LOCKPORT

The Rev. James Gooden, 66, of Westcliffe Drive, Amherst, longtime pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Lockport, died Friday (Dec. 26, 1997) in St. Clair Hospital, Tacoma, Wash.

A native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., he was in Tacoma visiting a relative.

He was pastor of the Lockport church for 34 years and was a graduate of Buffalo Book and Bible Institute.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy Quarles Gooden; a son, Ronald of Pittsburgh; four daughters, Lenora Robinson of St. Louis, Joyce of Kenmore and Carol Hamilton and Brenda Howze, both of Amherst; two sisters, Beatrice Groomes of Birmingham, Ala., and Maggie Foster of Tuscaloosa; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 179 E. Ferry St. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
