Tom Bradley, who held the limelight for an unprecedented five terms as the first black mayor of Los Angeles, turned 80 with little fanfare.

Bradley celebrated the milestone privately with his family Monday. The law firm where he works held a party for him Sunday night.

Bradley was mayor from 1973 to 1993. He suffered a heart attack in March 1996.
