WOMAN GIVEN 25-YEAR TERM FOR ROLE IN DAUGHTER'S DEATH

A woman was sentenced Monday to 25 years in prison for her part in the slaying of her 7-year-old daughter, whose body was found in a trash can buried in the family's back yard.

Mona Volgares, 28, who has three other children, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and kidnapping, and pleaded guilty to endangering a child and obstructing justice.

Prosecutors said her husband, Jack Volgares, 42, caused Seleana Gamble's death in June by shoving her because she wet herself after Volgares criticized the way she was washing dishes. Seleana went into convulsions, lost consciousness and died.

Mrs. Volgares allegedly did not get help for Seleana and helped her husband bury the body. Volgares, convicted of murder, was sentenced to 37 years to life in prison.
