Sarah J. "Sally" Goetze, who harnessed a love for cooking and people into a career as operator of the Family Spot Restaurant, died Sunday (Dec. 28, 1997) in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness. She was 64.
The former Sarah Rider, of Roosevelt Highway, was born in Tonawanda and grew up in the Buffalo area. She spent most of her adult life in Lyndonville.
She opened the Family Spot in 1986 and operated it until selling it in 1995. For most of her life, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Goetze was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Charles J. of Lyndonville; three daughters, Patty Hall of Manlius, Margaret Dix and Christine; four brothers, Hubert Rider and Frank Rider, both of the Town of Tonawanda, Harold "Red" Rider of Barker and Joseph "Bud" Rider of Kenmore; a sister, Myna Trojanowski of Lancaster; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Church, Lake Avenue, after prayers at 1:30 in Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, 112 N. Main St. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.
