Two men believed to have used a shotgun in a series of recent robberies were arrested late Monday after they robbed a man at Sherman Street and Paderewski Drive, police said. A third man was being sought.
"It was perfect timing. The officers saw the suspects running just as the call came in," Lt. Rick Bartoszewicz of the Broadway Station said. "We believe they are responsible for close to half a dozen robberies."
A Watson Street man said he was approached by three men shortly before midnight Monday and threatened with a shotgun. He was forced to the ground, struck in the back of the head and robbed of his wallet containing $12.
Officers David Lillis, Thomas Leatherbarrow, Dennis McLaughlin and Robert Joyce responded and arrested two men. A 12-gauge shotgun with a pistol grip was found behind a building.
Facing robbery and weapons charges were Anthony King, 34, of Sherman Street and Torriando Evans, 21, of Fox Street.
