The County Legislature, agreeing with recommendations by the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board and the Department of Environment and Planning, has approved continuing the Marilla Agricultural District.
The Legislature applauded Marilla's efforts to protect farmland and provide an environment conducive to agricultural practices while protecting the character of the town. The Legislature said the town's efforts can serve as a model to other communities.
The district was formed Dec. 14, 1973 and is subject to review every eight years. A public hearing was held in Marilla in November at which several modifications were recommended. A total of 126 acres was added to it while 30 acres that are the property of Russo Development, Renee Court subdivision on Two Rod Road were deleted at the owner's request.
