John J. Stangl of Delevan died Monday (Dec. 29, 1997) in Cattaraugus County Nursing Home, Machias. He was 88.
Born in Buffalo, he was a retired carpenter. He worked for Arcade contractor Gib Richardson.
Stangl served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Franklinville.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Dorothy Sly; three sons, Gene and R. Joe, both of Arcade, and Ralph of Middleport; four daughters, Gretchen Fahy and Barbara Beck, both of Arcade, Ruth Kessler of Delevan and Kathryn Jones of Chaffee; a brother, Joseph of South Wales; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade. Burial will be in Yorkshire Cemetery.
