Police Monday arrested a former nurse in the deaths of six patients in a Newport, Ind., hospital where authorities have been investigating dozens of unexplained deaths.
Orville L. Majors, 36, of Linton, had his practical nurse's license revoked by the state in 1995 amid suspicions that he was present in the critical-care ward of Vermillion County Hospital when dozens of mostly elderly patients died.
Authorities investigated more than 160 deaths at the hospital that occurred between 1993 and March 1995 and exhumed 15 bodies for autopsy.
Majors has denied any wrongdoing. He said lethal drugs found in his van were used for his job with a home health-care agency.
Majors' nephew, Jason Crynes, has told investigators that his uncle told him of having caused at least two deaths at the 56-bed hospital, which is now called West Central Community Hospital.
