A sales tag for babies? Well, sort of. Looking for ways to guard against infant abduction, more and more maternity wards are attaching to the ankles or wrists of newborns a miniature anti-theft tag like those used on retail merchandise, says U.S. News & World Report. At least 10 percent of the nation's 4,000 maternity units use such antitheft systems to keep babies from being stolen and use similar devices to prevent infants from accidentally being switched.
