Two plainclothes police officers, working a narcotics detail in the Bronx, were wounded Monday morning by a gunman identified as a paroled drug dealer.
The male and female officers, both wearing bulletproof vests, were listed in stable condition in Jacobi Medical Center, said a department spokeswoman.
She said Detective Lourdes Gonzalez, 27, was shot once beneath the shoulder blade, just outside the protection of her vest, and underwent surgery. Detective Wafkey Salem, 31, was hit three times in the vest area.
Louis Quintero, 35, of the Bronx, was arrested and a gun was recovered, police said.
The shooting occurred about 10:45 a.m. as an undercover buy-and-bust operation was ending.
