A British woman who triggered controversy last year by insisting on trying to give birth to octuplets, all of whom died 19 weeks into her pregnancy, has produced a healthy baby.
Mandy Allwood gave birth Saturday, but her partner, Paul Hudson, declined to say what sex the baby was on the grounds that the couple had sold their story to a national newspaper.
"We are absolutely over the moon, we just can't believe it. After everything we've been through, it's all just fantastic," Hudson told Press Association news agency Sunday.
Ms. Allwood became pregnant with octuplets last year after taking powerful fertility drugs and ignoring medical advice to avoid sex for a while.
