Caroline Surman, 60, of Pierce Avenue, a former teacher's aide, died unexpectedly Saturday (Dec. 27, 1997) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness.
The former Caroline Leo was born in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School.
She worked as a bookkeeper at a General Tire store in Niagara Falls for about a decade until the mid-1960s. Later, she was a teacher's aide at Harry F. Abate Elementary School for seven years until 1981.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Stanley S.; two sons, Joseph S. of Spencerport and Stanley S.; a daughter, Mary C. Forster; a sister, Virginia DePetris of Santa Ana, Calif.; three brothers, Romany Leo, Alfred Leo and Louis Leo; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1100 South Ave., after prayers at 8:45 in Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Ave. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.[prhska]
