The mayor of a Philadelphia suburb faced criminal charges Sunday for his alleged role in a daring daylight bank robbery last week, police said.
Police said Mayor Daniel Devlin of Upper Darby Borough entered a local Mellon PSFS Bank branch Friday wearing sunglasses, a Miami Dolphins jacket and a baseball cap.
He allegedly told a teller that he had a bomb and demanded cash. The teller turned over $1,500, and Devlin walked casually out of the bank, police said. He surrendered to authorities half an hour later, according to police.
News reports said the mayor, who lost his re-election bid last month after serving a single four-year term, was apparently worried about money because he had been unable to keep his job with the Pennsylvania State Lottery.
