A three-alarm fire tore through a Bronx high-rise, injuring 26 residents who suffered smoke inhalation.
The fire at Richman Plaza in the borough's Morris Heights section was extinguished just before midnight Friday, said Frank Zitaglio, a Fire Department spokesman.
Twelve residents were taken to area hospitals, while the remainder refused medical treatment, he said.
The fire started in a trash compactor on the 23rd floor of the 43-story building, Zitaglio said. It had not spread to any apartments.
The cause was under investigation.
