The Buffalo Blizzard plays host to the Detroit Rockers in an indoor soccer game tonight at 7:30 at Marine Midland Arena.

High school basketball teams are back in action in at least 14 holiday tournaments being played throughout the region. Among those starting today are the Sweet Home Tournament (Niagara Falls vs. South Park at 5 p.m. and Sweet Home vs. O'Hara at 6:30 p.m.), the international Lew-Port Tournament (Lackawanna vs. St. Catharines, Ont., at 6 p.m. and Lew-Port vs. Thorold, Ont., at 7:30) and the Timon/St. Jude Tournament (Seneca vs. McKinley at 6 p.m. and Timon/St. Jude vs. Lancaster at 7:30 p.m.). Among the events holding finals are the Hamburg Sun Tournament at Hilbert College (6 and 8 p.m.) and the Park Christmas Tournament (6 and 7:30).

Things to view

The NFL playoffs start today, with Channel 7 getting both the Minnesota Vikings at the New York Giants (12:30) and the Jacksonville Jaguars at the Denver Broncos (4 p.m.). On Sunday, Channel 2 will carry the Miami Dolphins at the New England Patriots (12:30), and Channel 29 gets the Detroit Lions at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4 p.m.).

The Buffalo Sabres travel to North Carolina to take on the Hurricanes tonight at 7 on Empire.

The Independence Bowl is a rematch between Notre Dame and LSU, a game the Irish won during the regular season. It will be televised Sunday at 8 p.m. by ESPN. The Bowl between Arizona and New Mexico will start today at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

Top-ranked North Carolina faces Georgia in a college basketball game today at noon on Channel 4. Louisville and Kentucky renew their intrastate rivalry today at 4 p.m. on Channel 4.

With Patrick Ewing sidelined, maybe Marcus Camby can get the Toronto Raptors off the schneid when they face the New York Knicks today at 1 p.m. on Empire and MSG.
