I didn't know Scott Krueger. Yet I can't help but feel a deep sense of sadness for this young man with so much promise for a bright future.
I am a parent of two, both in college. My 20-year-old son enjoys the social side of college and talks frequently about pledging for a fraternity.
However, I believe the social aspects of college life have gotten out of hand. We continue to hear about deaths associated with college drinking. I would like to see all sororities and fraternities on campus shut down. I would like to see the colleges deal more severely with underage drinking in the dorm rooms. And I would like to see bar owners proof teen-agers more carefully and stop advertising to college kids.
These young adults are our future. We send them to college to help them achieve the education and tools they will need to obtain a job and become responsible adults. We must try to instill in our youth the importance of education and not succumbing to peer pressure.
