A city man pleaded not guilty Friday in City Court to three counts of torturing and injuring animals and two counts of animal fighting, Assistant District Attorney Robert M. Graff said.

City Judge Mark A. Violante set bail at $1,500 cash or $3,000 property for Raymond K. Crowell, 21, of 1336 Ashland Ave., who was arrested Christmas Eve for allegedly staging a dog fight in his garage.

The animal fighting counts are felonies, said police, who confiscated four pit bulls from the Ashland Avenue address.
