ORTON PLACE MAN SHOT; ACQUAINTANCE ARRESTED

A 56-year-old Orton Place man was shot in his home by an acquaintance Thursday afternoon, Buffalo police said.

Sigredo Rodriguez of 16 Orton Place, Apartment 2, was shot in the right shoulder and taken to Erie County Medical Center.

Police charged Jose Ortiz, 23, of 453 West Ave. with first-degree assault and weapons possession.

Ortiz used a .38-caliber handgun to shoot Rodriquez while both men were in the Orton Place apartment shortly after 2 p.m., said Lt. William Blake of B District.

It was unclear Thursday night what the relationship between the two men was and what caused the shooting.

Police also charged two women with second-degree obstructing governmental administration for trying to hide the gun from officers, Blake said.

Charged were Martha Oliveras, 42, and Carmen Ortiz, 24, both of Orton Place.
