Formal opening of a commercial access road that will divert truck and other commercial traffic away from the Woodlawn Beach area in the Town of Hamburg is set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Assemblyman Dick Smith, D-C-Blasdell, said funding for the access road, which is between the sites occupied by Buffalo Specialty Products and Buffalo Crushed Stone on Route 5, was provided entirely by Buffalo Crushed Stone. The road will channel truck traffic further northg on Route 5.
Smith credited Richard E. Garman, Buffalo Crushed Stone president, with "taking the initiative to provide this by-pass road to ensure public safety at no cost to the taxpayer."
The 93-acre Woodlawn Beach State Park opened at the end of summer 1996, after the state took title to the land.
