DONNA FRUEHAUF, NURSE, DRESS SHOP OWNER

A Mass of Christian Burial for Donna Fruehauf, a former nurse and dress shop owner, will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 3980 Main St. at Eggert Road, Eggertsville, after prayers at 8:30 in Dengler Funeral Home, 2070 Eggert Road, Amherst. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, East Pembroke.

Mrs. Fruehauf, 94, of Eggertsville, died Monday (Dec. 22, 1997, in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness.

The former Donna Costello was born in East Pembroke and graduated from City Hospital School of Nursing in 1925. Her nursing career took her to New York City, where she was hired to travel to France to care for the son of a French dignitary.

During the 1930s, Mrs. Fruehauf operated the Tres Chic dress shop on Hertel Avenue. She closed the shop after 15 successful years but continued to sell used clothing, antiques and collectibles from her home.

After the death of her husband, Eugene, who started a contracting business called Fruehauf Associates, she returned to nursing, working at St. Francis Hospital until age 80.

She then pursued her interest in sales by conducting estate sales from her home.

Mrs. Fruehauf was an avid gardener, and in 1947 her gardens were featured in an article in the Buffalo Courier-Express.

Survivors include a stepson, Eugene Jr., and stepgrandchildren.
