A 10-month-old girl was in stable condition after eating crack cocaine that was stored in a shoe box on her bed Thursday, Nassau County police said.
The toddler's mother realized she had eaten the drug after the girl began vomiting and slipping in and out of consciousness at about 1 p.m., said Officer George Hoeler, a police spokesman.
The child, whose name was not released, apparently took an unknown amount of cocaine from a shoe box sitting on a bed where she was resting, Hoeler said.
Her 17-year-old mother, also unidentified, called police, who took the baby to Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, where she was listed in stable condition Thursday evening.
Police arrested the mother's boyfriend, Kelii Denny, 21, but it was not immediately known what charges had been filed against him, said another police spokesman.
