Russell C. Roll of Clarence Center, a retired letter carrier, died Tuesday (Dec. 23, 1997) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a brief illness. He was 87.
Roll retired in 1979 after a 24-year career as a rural letter carrier.
During World War II, he served in North Africa and Italy with the Army's 209th Anti-Aircraft Battalion.
His interests included baseball, fishing and bowling.
He was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion and Clarence Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, the former Onnolee Hartwig; a daughter, Dr. Susan K. of Orchard Park; a son, Richard of Clarence Center; and a grandson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9535 Clarence Center Road. Burial will be in Clarence Centre Cemetery.
